How does it work?
West Coast Swing is a dance that demands a strong foundation of technical skill, incorporating fascinating concepts for leading and following. For this reason, we highly encourage participating in the courses. In the beginner courses, you’ll master the basic rhythm and patterns that serve as the building blocks of the dance. As you progress to the intermediate courses, you’ll explore advanced principles, learn how to apply them in various variations, and discover ways to combine them effectively. This step-by-step approach helps you continuously develop and refine your technique.
We definitely recommend attending WCS dance parties, which we organize for you, as soon as possible and as often as you can. This allows you to practice what you've learned in the courses. Even as a beginner, you don’t need to feel like you know too little. At the very least, you’ll meet great people, immerse yourself in the music, and get a feel for the rhythm. WCS is danced to modern music and by listening to it regularly—whether at parties or simply by tuning into the radio occasionally—you’ll find it easier to dance to.
What next?
WCS is danced all over the world so you can definitely attend one of the international festivals (weekends full of themed workshops and dance-filled nights). There, you'll not only meet international instructors who will teach you new and exciting things but you'll also get to dance at parties with a variety of people (make sure to follow the Facebook group West Coast Swing Prague and check our calendar, where you'll find various events). These events also offer the opportunity to participate in competitions, where you can earn points and advance to higher levels. Don't worry, competing is not mandatory—you can just cheer others on and soak up the inspiration.
Let’s get dancing!
